To the Woman Who Inspired Me to Never Settle in My Career: Thank You

This post is written by Luke Ottaway.

A year ago this week I decided to ‘take the plunge’ and join the crazy world of self-employment. This could be a blog about the risk of giving up a guaranteed paycheque, or about saying goodbye to my 9-to-5. Instead this blog will be something very different than that. This blog is a thank you.

Changing jobs and career paths wouldn’t be possible without the hard work my wife, Carly, had put in long before I joined Web of Words. It seemed like most nights I would get home after a long commute, and she would still be working away on another blog, or one more content plan. It would be late at night and I would be headed off to bed and Carly was still at her desk working. The thing is, she loves what she does. She wants to be the best version of herself for our clients, and her passion for this industry is contagious.

When I sat down to write this blog, it struck me that often I crave feedback from her, letting me know how I am doing. Whether it’s my latest video creation, or new images for a Facebook post, she is always there giving her support and encouragement. Carly, it’s my time to say what a great job you have done, and continue to do. You have made this life possible for you and I. Without you chasing your dream, there would be no Web of Words. We would both be on different career paths, and we wouldn’t get to work together every day.

There have been tough times and challenges along the way, and I am sure there will be more. But as we grow the Web of Words team and brand together, I know the best is yet to come. With a partner and leader like you, I truly am living the dream.

Thanks Elizabeth! Figured if I’m going to join the blogging world, this is how I should make my debut. 😉

  2. Beautifully said Luke!
I know how excited Carly was when you announced you were joining her on the big adventure of self-employment.
I am a lot older than you both so from my perspective I can say that if my teenage son grows to be as creative (he’s well on the way) and ambitious (we are working on that one) as you and Carly I will be so incredibly proud!!
You will continue to do great things together, I have NO doubt.
Best of luck as you start your second year!

    Cheers,
    Kim

Thanks Kim, that means a lot. And with a role model like you to look up to, I’m sure your son will find the path that’s right for him.
